Our governance

We are funded by the Department for Transport and operate as a statutory public body. Our work is overseen through clear governance arrangements that support accountability, transparency and effective decision-making.

Our governance structure

TfN is governed by a Board and supported by committees.

• The Board provides strategic direction and oversight.
• Committees focus on specific areas of work and support informed decision-making.

Open meetings

We hold our Board and committee meetings in public.

Members of the public and the press can attend meetings, except where items are legally required to be discussed in private. This helps maintain transparency and public trust.

Information and transparency

We publish information to help people understand how we operate and how decisions are made.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we publish information through a formal publication scheme, in line with the Local Government Transparency Code.
