Transport for the North is developing an integrated, multi-modal Strategic Transport Plan to make it easier for passengers and freight to move throughout the region across all transport modes. This plan will build on the March 2015 Northern Transport Strategy to make a prioritised case for investment in the North of England to 2050.
Informed by important evidence, including Integrated Rail and Major Roads Reports, the Plan will have wide-ranging and ambitious scope, setting out the priorities for connectivity that will inform the Investment Programme required to transform economic performance.
The Plan will complement the policy documents of Transport for the North’s regional partners including their strategic economic plans and local transport plans, and will also seek to influence the strategies and policy documents of Transport for the North’s national partners – Department for Transport, Highways England, Network Rail and HS2 Ltd.
Transport for the North will work closely with businesses across the North to understand their investment plans, in order to support and exploit the potential of the prime and enabling capabilities set out in the Northern Powerhouse Independent Economic Review.Download NPIER Core messages
Publication of the Strategic Transport Plan Position Statement and the Initial Major Roads and Integrated Rail Reports for stakeholder engagement
As part of Transport for the North’s commitment to involve stakeholders in the development of the Strategic Transport Plan, we are hosting a series of roadshows across the North to meet with business and civic representatives to share the findings from the Strategic Transport Plan evidence base.
The events, which started in June 2017 and will run throughout the summer in cities and key towns, are an opportunity for organisations to find out what the Strategic Transport Plan will mean for them and their locality, as well as a chance to ask any questions.
Transport for the North is particularly interested in gaining feedback from stakeholders, which will then be considered during the next stage of the Strategic Transport Plan’s development, before it is released in draft in the Autumn.
Public consultation on the Strategic Transport Plan will begin later this year. To register your interest in attending a future consultation event, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
