Strategic Transport Plan

Evidence and insightsMulti-modal and strategic planning

What is it?
The Strategic Transport Plan sets out the long‑term vision and priorities for transport in the North to 2050. It provides a shared regional framework for how transport should support economic growth, reduce carbon emissions, and improve access to jobs, services and opportunities. The Plan sets clear ambitions for an integrated, affordable, accessible and near zero‑emission transport system.

How is it useful?
The Plan helps combined and local authorities align their local transport plans with agreed pan‑Northern priorities. It provides a consistent, evidence‑based framework to support decision‑making, strengthen business cases and ensure funding bids reflect shared ambitions for growth, decarbonisation and inclusion. Progress against these ambitions is tracked through the Strategic Transport Plan Monitoring and Evaluation Dashboard.
