Today’s launch of The Great North partnership marks a significant moment for everyone living and working in North.
Through working collaboratively, the partnership will tap into the collective strength of the North to unlock the potential of its people and its places. Unlocking the economic potential of the North will drive growth at scale and at pace for the UK. Mayors across the North East, Cumbria, the North West and Yorkshire have come together to deliver transformational change to the transport, clean energy, manufacturing, digital and cultural sectors.
At Transport for the North, we look forward to working with The Great North partnership. TfN’s work on the Northern Powerhouse Independent Economic Review, referenced in today’s launch, revealed the potential to unlock an additional £118bn per annum if we invest in the potential of the North’s economy. That economic ambition underpins our Strategic Transport Plan vision for a better-connected region.
Chief Executive Martin Tugwell said “We welcome the launch of The Great North partnership. We look forward to working with our directly elected leaders as the partnership looks to improve transport in our towns, cities, rural and coastal communities.”
