Our Northern Transport Behaviour Survey has started!

Thursday 11th September 2025

How do you travel to work? To the shops? To medical appointments or to visit friends and family? Shorter trips or longer distances? Train, bus, car, bike, wheelchair or walk?

How people in the North travel is a new survey, just launched from Transport for the North.

But why is it important?

Knowing how people get around our towns, cities and rural areas is an important tool in understanding what people need from transport in all parts of the North. The data we gather helps to understand when people need to travel, how they want to get there and what works for them.

Throughout September and October, we will be writing to randomly selected households across the North, inviting participants to access the survey online, via weblinks and QR codes. People who cannot access the survey using the internet can still take part, with a telephone survey available for participants to talk to our research partners IPSOS UK.

So, if you see a letter come through your door asking to take part, have a look at the survey. Your views are important and will help us to improve transport by providing useful data and information to mayoral combined authorities, county combined authorities and local transport authorities where you live.

We want to help improve transport. Telling us about the journeys you make will help us to shape what is needed and where, to benefit everyone living and working in the North.
